Waynesville Neuro Wellness

You have tried everything you know to try, for yourself or for your child, and the change you know is possible still has not come.

That is not a discipline problem and it is not a willpower problem. In almost every case it means nobody has measured the system underneath it. The focus, the mood, the sleep, and the meltdowns are not separate problems. They run on one nervous system, and that system can be measured and trained.

In our Waynesville office, or entirely from home, wherever you are. We measure with qEEG brain mapping, then train with neurofeedback, biofeedback, vestibular, proprioceptive and oculomotor exercise, virtual reality biofeedback, vagus nerve stimulation, and the Safe and Sound Protocol.

Most people arrive here worried about one specific thing

They have usually tried the obvious answers first. More discipline, a different schedule, another supplement, another round of the same conversation. Effort was never the missing piece. These are the concerns that bring people through the door.

Adults and teens

  • Attention that will not hold long enough to finish the work in front of you
  • Worry that runs in the background all day and gets louder at night
  • A temper or a mood that arrives faster than it used to
  • Brain fog, word finding trouble, and memory that feels slower
  • Sleep that happens but never quite restores
  • Waking at three in the morning, every night, with a mind that starts running before you do
  • Being wired and exhausted at the same time, long past the point where rest helps
  • Lingering effects after a concussion or a hard hit
  • Wanting sharper performance rather than relief from anything

Children and families

  • Focus that falls apart at school and again at homework time
  • Meltdowns that are far bigger than whatever set them off
  • Sensory overwhelm in loud, bright, or crowded places
  • Transitions and changes of plan that cost the whole family an hour
  • Bedtime that takes two hours, and a child who wakes tired
  • Shutdowns, where a child goes quiet and unreachable instead of loud
  • Balance and coordination that lag behind the rest of their development
  • Wanting a path forward that is not only medication

We do not diagnose, and we do not replace the care your family already has. We measure the system underneath the behavior and train what the measurements show. If you already have a therapist, pediatrician, or physician, we are glad to share your results with them.

We offer two programs that provide support through a non-medicated approach to the things so many of us are carrying.

We provide an option for people who want to understand what is happening underneath their experience, and it works alongside the therapeutic or medication protocol you are already on. Many of the people we see are doing this while continuing with their therapist or their prescriber. We do not prescribe, we do not ask anyone to stop anything, and those decisions stay where they belong.

An MRI shows you what your brain looks like. A qEEG shows you what it is doing.

qEEG brain map before training, showing widespread areas of red and orange
BeforeAreas running hotter than typical for age.
qEEG brain map after training, showing the same view in green
AfterThe same measures, back within range.

One person's qEEG, recorded before and after training. Maps like these are what your assessment produces, and they are how we tell whether anything is actually changing. Every nervous system responds differently, so this is an illustration rather than a promise.

This is the difference between a plan and a guess

Most approaches to focus, mood, and sleep start from a symptom checklist. Someone asks how often you feel a certain way, adds up the answers, and chooses an intervention from the total. That can work, and it is also the reason so many people cycle through several interventions before anything holds.

We start somewhere else. A qEEG is a recording of the electrical activity your brain is already producing, compared with a database of others in your age range. Alongside it we measure balance, sensory processing, and clinical grade heart rate variability. What comes back is not an opinion about you. It is a picture of how your system is running right now, and every recommendation we make comes out of it.

Then we measure again later, so you can see what changed rather than only report whether you feel better.

How it works, start to finish

Four steps. You can stop after the first one and still walk away with something useful.

The assessment

In our office or from your own home. We measure, then walk you through exactly what we found in plain language, with a written report you keep.

Your plan

We build a training plan from your measurements rather than from a template, and we tell you up front what we expect it to take.

The training

You do the work in our Waynesville office, at home with remote support, or in a combination of the two. The plan can look the same either way.

We measure again

Reassessment at set intervals shows whether the patterns are actually shifting, so the plan gets adjusted from data instead of from impressions.

Start with the assessment, in office or at home

This is the front door for everything we do, and it stands on its own. The qEEG and the measures alongside it are how we find out what is actually happening, and everything we train with afterward is chosen from what they show. Many people find the report alone changes how they handle their week, before any training begins. Which assessment is right for you depends on whether you can get to Waynesville.

The Comprehensive Neuro Assessment

The full picture, using everything we have. This is the most complete measurement we can take of a nervous system, and it is the right starting point for many of our clients.

  • A qEEG recording of your brain's electrical activity, painless and non invasive, compared with a normative database of others in your age range
  • Balance, vestibular, proprioceptive, and oculomotor function, which tells us how much energy orientation and visual tracking are costing you
  • Sensory processing, meaning how well the sensory systems and the brain are communicating with each other, and where that communication is breaking down
  • Clinical grade heart rate variability, which is a different measurement from what a watch, band, or ring reports
  • Attention and cognitive performance measures
  • A structured history of what your system has been asked to carry
  • A written individualized report, plus a review session where we walk you through it together
  • A clear recommendation, including whether the answer is us or somebody else

Allow about two hours for the visit. The same process is used for children from age seven, with the pacing adjusted to the child.

Includes the full assessment, the written report, and the review session. See pricing, payment plans, and financial assistance.

Or call (828) 900-9821 and we will answer questions first. Monthly payment plans are available.

Our goal is to best support you, and if that means pointing you toward other services that would better serve you, we are committed to doing that. You are not signing up for a program by booking this.

What we actually use, and what each one does

In eighteen years of neuroimaging and neurofeedback work, one finding has held. Every person expresses their brain and nervous system differently, and two people arriving with the same complaint rarely show the same picture underneath it. That is why a single modality cannot serve everyone, and why individualized care requires more than one approach.

So this is not a menu you pick from. Most people work with two or three of these rather than all of them, and which ones are decided by what your assessment found rather than by what we happen to own. Open any one to see what it is and what it does.

Neurofeedback

What it is. Neurofeedback is the training that follows the qEEG. The assessment tells us which patterns your brain is producing and where they sit relative to what is typical for your age. Neurofeedback is how those patterns get trained. Nothing is sent into you and nothing is stimulated.

What it does. During a session your activity is measured continuously and fed back to you through sound, or through a show you are watching, which responds the moment a pattern shifts. The brain learns quickly from immediate feedback, and across a series of sessions it begins producing the more efficient pattern on its own. This is training rather than treatment. You are not being corrected. Your system is being shown its own activity clearly enough that it can adjust.

Biofeedback

What it is. Biofeedback measures what your body is doing that you cannot normally observe, including the rhythm between your heartbeats, your breathing rate, skin temperature, and muscle tension. Sensors read those signals and display them back to you while they are happening.

What it does. Once a signal is visible it becomes trainable. You can watch your heart rhythm change as your attention moves, or see tension you did not know you were holding. That visibility is the whole mechanism, because a system cannot adjust toward something it cannot detect. Heart rate variability measured this way is a clinical grade signal, which is a different thing from the summary score a watch or ring gives you in the morning.

Vestibular, proprioceptive, and oculomotor exercise

What it is. Three systems work together to tell you where you are and keep you steady. The vestibular system, in the inner ear, knows which way is up. Proprioception, from the joints and muscles, knows where your limbs are without looking. The oculomotor system controls how your eyes move, hold still, and track.

What it does. When those three disagree with each other, your system spends real energy reconciling them, and that cost shows up as fatigue, visual strain after reading, unsteadiness, losing your place on a page, or a child who cannot sit still.

It also shows up emotionally, which is the part most people never connect. When the systems that tell you where you are do not agree, your body is holding low grade uncertainty all day, and irritability, anxiousness, and a short fuse tend to follow. Alongside that, the connection between brain and body dulls. You feel less of what your body is actually reporting, and regulating gets harder, because the information you would regulate from is not arriving clearly.

We train each system with specific graded exercises: head and body movements for the vestibular side, position and balance work for proprioception, and tracking and convergence drills for the eyes.

Which of the three we train, and how hard, comes from what your assessment measured. The demand stays where your system can adapt rather than brace.

Virtual reality biofeedback

What it is. You wear a headset, and the environment inside it responds to your physiology in real time. Your heart rhythm is read continuously, and what you see and hear changes according to what your body is doing while you are doing it.

What we run in it. The sessions follow the Capacity Protocol developed at Neuro Progeny, the same nervous system capacity training used with leaders, founders, and coaches, delivered here in the headset. It is also the at home program described below, so the work is consistent whether you run it here or from your own living room. That means the sessions are a structured sequence rather than a collection of relaxation exercises, and each one builds on the one before it.

What it does. There is no breathing instruction and nothing to perform correctly. You observe your own internal state rather than following a technique, which is the deliberate difference between this and most regulation training. We are training flexibility rather than compliance. The headset also lets us introduce a challenge in a controlled way, so your system can practice meeting demand and recovering from it without the stakes it carries in your actual week.

Vagus nerve stimulation

What it is. The vagus nerve is the main communication line between your brain and your organs, and it carries most of the traffic in the branch of your nervous system responsible for recovery. Non invasive stimulation applies a gentle signal at the surface of the skin, usually at the ear or the side of the neck.

What it does. The signal travels the same pathway your body already uses to report that conditions are safe enough to recover. Sessions are short, and we track heart rate variability alongside them so we can see whether your system is responding rather than assume it is. Whether it is appropriate for you at all is decided from your assessment and your history, not applied by default.

Safe and Sound Protocol

What it is. The Safe and Sound Protocol is a listening program developed by Stephen Porges. You listen through headphones to music filtered to emphasize the frequency range of the human voice, in short sessions across a series of days.

What it does. The muscles of the middle ear tune what you hear, and under sustained load they favor the lower frequencies that once signaled threat. Filtered music exercises that tuning back toward the voice range, and the pathway involved is the same one that carries cues of safety to the rest of the system. It is passive on your part, which is part of why it suits children and anyone who finds active training difficult at first.

Two programs, three ways to run them

Both are non-medicated. The Comprehensive Neuro Program can be delivered in our office or at home with remote support. The Capacity Protocol is built for home from the start. They are not alternatives so much as different depths, and people who come in for the full assessment often run the Capacity Protocol alongside their program.

In office in Waynesville, or at home with remote support

The Comprehensive Neuro Program

It begins with the full assessment, individualized to you, and is followed by a program built to address each of the key areas that assessment found. Our goal is not to hand you a report that confirms what you already knew about yourself. It is to get clear enough information about the specific areas that need attention that we can actually do something about what you are experiencing.

  • The full comprehensive neuro assessment
  • A program built around the key areas your results identified
  • Sessions with a practitioner, in office or remotely
  • Access to every tool listed above, selected by your measurements
  • Reassessment to track how your capacity is changing
  • Adjustments as your system responds

At home, on your own schedule

The Capacity Protocol

A nervous system capacity program you run yourself, with weekly coaching and session monitoring so you are never doing it unsupervised. Built for adults with demanding weeks and little room for appointments.

  • Begins with the functional nervous system assessment, which identifies fourteen areas of life where your system may be under significant load
  • Objective nervous system regulation measured again through the protocol, so changes are tracked rather than assumed
  • Protocols adjusted as you go, against the goals you came in with
  • In headset VR biofeedback sessions with real time heart rate variability
  • Weekly coaching calls and session monitoring

Interested in the Comprehensive Neuro Program as well? Bring it up on your discovery call and we will walk you through what it involves and whether a visit makes sense for you.

What both programs include

Most places sell you a number of sessions. Both of ours are structured programs, which means the work is sequenced, you are supported through it every week, and there is a plan for carrying the changes into the life you actually live.

Weekly group coaching calls

You meet with us and with the others moving through it at the same time. Questions get answered in the week they come up rather than waiting for your next appointment.

A supportive online community

Somewhere to ask, compare notes, and see that what you are working through is not unusual. Between calls, this is where the momentum holds.

Integrated resources

Material covering the foundational building blocks of brain and nervous system health, so the training sits on top of a system that has what it needs rather than working from a depleted system.

Integration support

As your nervous system shifts, the way you work, rest, and relate to people shifts with it. We spend real time on how to carry that into your life rather than leaving you to work it out alone afterward.

If you are not sure which one fits, that is what the assessment is for. Book it first and decide afterward, when you are looking at your own numbers.

If any of this sounds familiar, this is for you

The parentWhose child holds it together all day at school and comes apart the moment they walk through the door, so the hardest hour of the day is the one where homework is supposed to happen.
The adult who has done the workYears of therapy, real insight, genuine effort, and the same pattern still showing up in the same situations.
The family wanting another optionLooking for a non-medicated approach, or for something that works alongside the prescription their child is already on, and wanting real data before deciding anything.
The woman in a transitionPerimenopause, menopause, or a season where several things shifted at once, who has been told this is simply her age, and who can tell the difference between getting older and running on empty.
The person who has stopped expecting sleepWho falls asleep fine or not at all, wakes at the same hour every night, and has quietly accepted being tired.
The high performerWho can feel the edge slipping, has no diagnosis and does not want one, and refuses to accept push harder as the answer.
The one still recoveringWho took a hit months ago, was cleared, and knows something has not come all the way back.

Who is behind this

Waynesville Neuro Wellness joins functional neuroscience assessments with the nervous system capacity training developed at Neuro Progeny. The first tells you precisely how your system is functioning today, and the second trains it to function with more room.

The work here is led by Cameron Allen, who has spent eighteen years in neuroimaging and neurofeedback and has reviewed more than eight thousand brain scans. He has conducted peer reviewed research alongside clinicians, researchers, and geneticists, including published work on qEEG and dopaminergic function.

How we see it

Our philosophy is that your nervous system is adaptive. Everything it is doing, including the patterns costing you the most right now, is your system working with the information it has and the resources it can spare. It is responding intelligently to what it has been asked to carry.

So we meet you where you are. The work is about building more regulation, more autonomy, and more freedom to choose your experience rather than react to the internal noise, the impulse, or the emotion of the moment.

We measure, we train what the measurements show, and we measure again, so what is working stays visible to both of us. If those measurements point somewhere other than here, we will tell you that too.

The Brain and Nervous System Supplement Guide

Nutrients and supplements can help support the brain and nervous system. This is a general reference and a starting place, organized by what you are actually experiencing rather than by ingredient.

  • A sheet each for focus and attention, brain fog, memory, mood regulation, worry, hyperactivity, sleep, and perimenopause
  • A short list to start with, and a second list to add only if you need more
  • How long each one actually takes to work, so you know when to judge it
  • What else moves the needle, including the things that are not supplements at all
  • A second page per sheet with contraindications, prescription interactions, and the research cited

Payment, plans, and financial assistance

Cost should not be the reason a family goes without this. Here is every way we know of to make it work.

What it costs

The in office comprehensive neuro assessment is $750 $575 at our Fall rate. The remote comprehensive nervous system assessment is $297 $197 at our Fall rate. Both include the assessment itself, your written report, and the session where we walk you through it.

Program pricing after that depends on which path your results point to. You get the full number in writing before you commit to anything, and there are no charges you did not agree to in advance.

Insurance

We do not accept insurance, and we do not provide superbills for reimbursement. Insurance companies do not currently pay for these services, so a superbill would not get you reimbursed either. It matters to us that you know that before you book rather than after.

What we can do is make it workable other ways.

Ways to pay

  • Card or bank transfer, paid in full
  • Monthly installments through Klarna or Affirm, applied for at checkout with a decision in minutes
  • A scholarship or reduced rate through Two Steps Up, described below

Klarna and Affirm run their own approval and set their own terms. We do not see your financial information and we are not part of that decision.

Financial assistance

Apply through Two Steps Up

Two Steps Up is a nonprofit supporting education, research, access to care, and the development of integrative technologies that solve a real problem. Every donation goes directly to supporting individuals, initiatives, educational initiatives, or the development of advanced and integrative technologies to improve well-being and quality of life.

Funding is not only needs based. Each application is carefully reviewed, and three things guide the decision: whether the need is one that is best supported by one of these approaches, whether what is needed is financial assistance, advocacy, or a different path to funding these services, and most importantly, what positive impact this would make in your life and how it would make it possible for you to positively impact other people's lives.

The application is built to respect your dignity. Nobody at Two Steps Up draws a salary, so donations are not absorbed by overhead. Two Steps Up also works through advocacy, partnering with community organizations so services can be offered free, on a sliding scale, or at a reduced rate.

Democratized health care means the person who needs this most is not the person least able to reach it.

Apply for assistance

Opens the Two Steps Up application in a new tab. Applying does not affect your ability to book, and it changes nothing about how you are treated as a client.

Questions people ask before booking

What is a qEEG brain map?

A qEEG, short for quantitative electroencephalography, is a painless and non invasive recording of your brain's electrical activity. Sensors rest on the scalp and record for a short period, and your patterns are then compared with a normative database of others in your age range. Nothing enters your body and no stimulation is involved. The result is a data driven picture of how your brain is functioning across attention, arousal, emotional regulation, and sleep.

Which assessment do I need, the in office one or the remote one?

If you can get to Waynesville, come in. The in office assessment measures more, including the qEEG, balance, and sensory processing, and it opens every tool we have. Every child we work with starts there. The remote assessment exists for adults who cannot make that trip, and it is a real assessment with a real report, focused on nervous system capacity and recovery. You complete it at home on your own schedule, with no appointment needed to start. If you are unsure, call us and we will tell you which one fits before you pay for either.

Is neurofeedback safe for children?

Yes. Neurofeedback is non invasive, and the sensors only record activity the brain is already producing. Children usually watch a show while the sensors record, and the show itself responds to their brain activity in real time, so most of them find it easy to sit through. The assessment itself is adjusted in pacing for younger children.

What ages do you work with?

We work with children from age seven, through teens, adults, and older adults. The assessment requires sitting still long enough to capture a clean recording, and we have ways of making that manageable for busier bodies. The at home Capacity Protocol is built for adults.

How many sessions will this take?

It depends on what your assessment shows and how your system responds, and we tell you our expectation up front rather than leaving it open ended. Training of this kind is typically measured in a course of sessions over weeks rather than a single visit. Because we reassess at intervals, you will see whether the patterns are moving rather than having to guess.

Does this replace therapy or medication?

No. We do not diagnose, we do not prescribe, and we do not ask anyone to stop working with their existing providers. Many of the people we see are doing this alongside therapy or medical care, and we are glad to share your results with the providers you choose. Decisions about medication belong between you and your prescriber.

How is this different from talk therapy?

Talk therapy works with what you say and feel. This works with what your nervous system is doing underneath that. The two are not in competition, and they often work better together. When someone has been in therapy for years and the same pattern keeps returning, the missing piece is frequently regulation at a level that insight alone cannot reach.

How is this different from what my smartwatch tells me?

A watch, ring, or band gives you an estimate summarized after the fact, which is useful for spotting trends. What we record is a clinical grade signal, measured directly and in real time, precise enough to train against while you are sitting there. That difference is the reason the training works.

What does it mean to have a dysregulated nervous system?

A regulated nervous system moves fluidly between effort and recovery. It ramps up when something demands it and settles back down when the demand passes. Dysregulation means that movement has gotten stuck, so you stay revved when nothing is happening or stay flat when you need to engage.

People usually notice it as being wired and tired at once, racing thoughts at night, a jaw that will not unclench, brain fog, snapping at people you love, or feeling on edge for no reason you can name. Those are signs of a nervous system spending more than it is replacing. They are also measurable, which is what the assessment is for.

How do you reset your nervous system?

Breathwork, cold exposure, movement, and sleep all shift your state in the moment, and they are worth doing. What they do not do is tell you which part of your system needs the work, which is why people often feel better for an afternoon and back to baseline by the next week.

A nervous system reset that holds comes from training rather than from technique alone. We measure how your system is currently regulating, train the specific areas your results point to, and then measure again so you can see whether the pattern actually moved. That is the difference between managing a state and changing a baseline.

What is the difference between neurofeedback and biofeedback?

Biofeedback is the broader category. It measures body signals you cannot normally observe, including heart rhythm, breathing, skin temperature, and muscle tension, and shows them back to you in real time so they become trainable.

Neurofeedback is biofeedback for the brain specifically. It measures the electrical activity your brain is producing and feeds that back through sound or a show that responds as patterns shift. We use both, because they train different parts of the same system, and which one you need comes from your assessment.

Does neurofeedback actually work?

Neurofeedback has been studied for decades and has a substantial research literature behind it, with the strongest evidence around attention and arousal regulation. It is also not a cure, and results vary between people, which anyone telling you otherwise is overselling.

We have also found it to be far more effective for many experiences when it is integrated with other services rather than used on its own, which is why we offer an integrated program rather than neurofeedback alone.

Our answer to that uncertainty is measurement. We take an objective baseline before you start, reassess at set intervals, and show you the comparison. You should not have to take our word for whether something is working, and with this approach you do not have to.

What is heart rate variability training?

Heart rate variability is the variation in timing between your heartbeats, and it is one of the clearest windows into how well your nervous system moves between effort and recovery. Higher variability generally reflects a system with more room to respond.

Training it means watching that signal live while your state changes, so your system learns from immediate feedback rather than from instruction. What we measure is a clinical grade signal taken directly, which is a different thing from the overnight score a watch or ring reports in the morning.

Do you take insurance?

No, and we do not provide superbills for reimbursement either. Insurance companies do not currently pay for these services, so a superbill would not get you reimbursed, and we would rather tell you that before you book than have you discover it afterward. Monthly plans are available through Klarna and Affirm, and if cost is the real barrier there is financial assistance through Two Steps Up.

What does it cost?

The in office comprehensive neuro assessment is $750 $575 at our Fall rate, and the remote comprehensive nervous system assessment is $297 $197. Both include the assessment, your written report, and the session where we go through it with you. Program pricing after that depends on which path you take, and we give you the full number before you commit to anything. Full details, including monthly plans and financial assistance, are in the payment section.

Can I pay monthly instead of all at once?

Yes. Klarna and Affirm both offer monthly installment plans, applied for at checkout with a decision in minutes. They run their own approval and set their own terms, and we are not part of that decision.

What if I cannot afford this at all?

Apply to Two Steps Up, a nonprofit that funds access to care of exactly this kind. Each application is carefully reviewed against whether the need is best supported by one of these approaches, whether what is needed is financial assistance, advocacy, or a different path to funding, and most importantly what positive impact it would make in your life and in your ability to affect other people's lives. Nobody there draws a salary, so donations are not absorbed by overhead. You can apply from the payment section, and applying does not change anything about how we work with you.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book the assessment directly. If you are already working with a physician, therapist, or pediatrician, we are happy to coordinate with them and send your results wherever you would like them to go.

Can I do this from home if I am not near Waynesville?

Yes. We run a comprehensive nervous system assessment entirely remotely, built for people who cannot get to the office. It measures nervous system capacity and heart rate variability rather than the qEEG, balance, and sensory work, which require hands on measurement. You get the same written report and a live review call. From there the Capacity Protocol runs entirely from home with weekly coaching and session monitoring.

What if this is not the right fit for me?

Then we will tell you at the review session rather than sell you a program. The assessment stands on its own, you keep the report either way, and you are not committing to anything further by booking it.
